The Chesterfield City Council’s approval of a resolution opposing the city of St. Louis joining St. Louis County as its 91st municipality drew criticism from two residents.
Kurt Greenbaum, who heads a media firm, spoke first during the public comment period at the council’s Jan. 4 meeting. He said councilmembers who supported the resolution ignored facts by suggesting St. Louis’ unmet financial obligations would be shifted to county residents. There’s no law or legal precedent saying that would happen, so raising such as issue appears to be “a scare tactic,” Greenbaum said.
