The reason People in St. Louis City and St. Louis County are overpaying for services is because the state government is taxing St. Louis City and County more than it spends here. By seceding from Missouri to form the new State of St. Louis, we could actually have a lower tax burden than what we currently face having to overpay for state services. From Housing, Development, Education, and Transportation policy of State Government, they all ask St. Louis City and County to subsidize the rest of the state which has effect of keeping segregation going while state legislators talk openly hostile about St. Louis local control. Additionally, crown jewels of the region (Forest Park, The Zoo, Museums, Conventions) are all paid for by the residents of St. Louis City and St. Louis County. By seceding from Missouri, we also solve the free-rider problem of St. Charles and Jefferson County residents.
